Kisia guides Impala RFC past former side Mwamba to qualify for Floodlit semis

Impala RFC under former Kulabu player and Coach Lious Kisia started their Floodlit 2024 tournament on a high after they defeated Mwamba RFC 18-3 in a match staged at Impala Rugby Grounds.

The result saw them qualify for semifinals which will be played in a week’s time at the same venue.

Impala RFC drew first blood through outside centre Derrick Kinyari. In what was a brilliant solo effort, he had to evade four markers before embarking on a sprint to dot down the ball. Conversion was successful as Impala went 7-0 up.

Impala RFC would go 10-0 up minutes later after Matoka Matoka successfully converted a penalty goal after Mwamba were found guilty of not rolling away.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Mwamba RFC responded back with a penalty goal with Shaban Ahmed splitting the uprights to cut the deficit to 10-3. But their joy was short lived as Impala responded almost immediately when Matoka Matoka stepped up to slot another penalty more than 40 metres out after Mwamba RFC were penalised for not releasing.

In the second 40, only one try separated the two teams. Impala RFC enjoyed loads of possession but they would manage only one try thanks to Patrick Muli. Conversion was unsuccessful with Impala winning the match 18-3.
