National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-Kenya) will graduate the first cohort of coaches under the Coaches Training and Development Programme on Friday, 23rd January 2026 at the University of Nairobi, Kikuyu Campus.

Among the standout graduates are rugby coaches Tony Lujesi Khadambi and Evelyne Kalemera Luganu, who complete the University of Nairobi Certificate in Coaching after being fully sponsored through the Elite Coaches Development Programme.

The two are part of a diverse group of 33 coaches drawn from different federations including football, athletics, basketball, volleyball, karate, netball, rugby and weightlifting.

Khadambi and Kalemera represent the rugby fraternity in the cohort, highlighting the sport’s growing emphasis on structured coach education and long-term athlete development. Their graduation is expected to strengthen technical capacity within Kenyan rugby, particularly at grassroots and development levels where qualified coaching remains critical.

According to NOC-Kenya, the programme was designed as a strategic investment aimed at building a highly skilled, professional and sustainable national coaching workforce. The organisation noted that the graduating coaches form a key human resource base that will support high-performance systems and structured athlete pathways across all sports.

NOC-Kenya has called on federations with graduating coaches to be represented at the ceremony as a show of institutional support, stressing that such recognition plays an important role in motivating coaches and promoting a culture of continuous professional development.

The graduation at the UON Kikuyu Campus will officially usher the first cohort into the national coaching system, setting a benchmark for future intakes under the Coaches Training and Development Programme.
