Daystar Falcons booked their place in the semifinals of the 2025 Impala Floodlit Varsity category after a commanding 20-13 win over Mean Machine in their quarterfinal clash at the Impala Club on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
The Falcons started brightly, capitalizing on an early Mean Machine error when Eddie Wambugu intercepted a pass near midfield and dashed over the line for the opening try.
Patrick Odongo’s conversion drifted wide, but Daystar had the early advantage at 5-0.
Mean Machine tried to respond with a penalty soon after, but their effort went wide, allowing the Falcons to regain momentum.
From a well-executed lineout and scrum combination, Randy Otuoma carried the ball strongly before offloading to Vincent Omuroka, who released Wambugu.
A clever chip ahead from Wambugu saw Patrick Odongo chase and ground the ball for Daystar’s second try, converted by Otuoma for a 12-0 lead.

Otuoma then turned scorer himself, breaking through a crowded defense on the left flank to add another unconverted try, stretching the advantage to 17-0.
Just before halftime, Wambugu added a penalty to make it 20-0 at the break, giving the Falcons firm control.
Mean Machine came back more composed in the second half.
After the break, Mean Machine tried reducing the deficit through a penalty to make it 20-3, then added a converted try to close the gap to 20-10.
They followed it up with another penalty to narrow the score to 20-13.
Despite the late surge, Daystar’s defense held firm to secure the win and a spot in the semifinals.
In other varsity category matches played at RFUEA Grounds JKUAT beat Impala Swaras 44-0 to sail to semis same to KCA University who beat Zetech 19-15.
