KRU Championship side Western Bulls RFC are appealing for financial support to enable them to honour their fixtures in the upcoming 2025/26 KRU Championship season, which is scheduled to kick off in November.
The Kakamega-based club, once a regular feature in Kenya’s top-flight league, is facing a major financial crisis that has greatly affected their preseason preparations.
According to the club, they have not resumed training since the Dala 7s tournament in September due to lack of funds.
In a statement released by the club, Western Bulls confirmed the extent of their financial challenges, noting that preparations have stalled due to lack of funds.
“As we prepare for the upcoming 2025/26 KRU Championship season set to kick off on 16th November, Western Bulls RFC is facing a tough financial situation that has greatly affected our preparations. The team has not resumed training since the Dala 7s tournament, and without adequate funding, we risk missing out on what promises to be a competitive season.”

The club further appealed to its supporters, alumni, and the wider rugby community to step in and help them stay afloat.
“We are therefore appealing to our fans, well-wishers, alumni, and the wider rugby fraternity to support us financially as we strive to honour our fixtures this season. Your contribution, no matter how small, will go a long way in helping us get back on the pitch and continue nurturing young rugby talent from the Western region.”

In the 2024/2025 KRU Championship season, Western Bulls narrowly avoided relegation, finishing with 11 points, the same as TUM Marines.
Despite TUM’s final-day victory, they were relegated due to an inferior head-to-head record, with Bulls surviving after three wins and eight losses, and a points differential of –70.
