The rugby fraternity continues to send tributes to Warren Abrahams, who passed away on Friday during the Safari 7s tournament.
Abrahams, the head coach of the Belgium women’s 7s team, tragically died on the opening day of the event, prompting the Belgian Rugby Federation to withdraw the team from the competition.
“Belgium Rugby is in mourning following the sudden passing of Warren Abrahams, head coach of the BelSevens. Warren was in Kenya with the national women’s rugby sevens team for the Safari 7s tournament when he passed away,” the Federation stated.
“Following this tragic event, the team immediately withdrew from the tournament. All necessary measures have been taken to accompany and support the players and staff as best as possible. The team has already returned to Belgium and will continue to receive psychological support to help them through this difficult time.
“The Federation will continue to provide its full support to Warren’s family, to the team, and to all Belgium Rugby teams during this particularly difficult period. We ask the rugby community to face this painful moment with dignity, compassion, and respect toward Warren’s family. Our thoughts are with Warren’s family, his friends, and all those whose lives he touched,” The Belgian Federation announced.
Several Federations led by World Rugby and Rugby Africa led the rugby community in mourning the coach.
