Shujaa have completed a remarkable Safari 7s four-peat after defeating Shogun 14-7 in a tense and entertaining final at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Kenya 7s side continued their impressive record at the annual tournament, having lost only once since 2021, a group stage defeat to Germany in the 24th edition, which they went on to win.
Shujaa in Safari 7s final
This marked Shujaa’s fourth consecutive final appearance and the third straight final showdown against Shogun. Their previous results included victories over Germany (12–5) in 2021, Shogun (19–0) in 2023, and Shogun (12–0) in 2024.
Before kickoff, a moment of silence was observed in honour of Warren Abrahams, the Belgium National Sevens Team coach who passed away on Friday, 10th October, during the tournament.
Shogun took the early lead, capitalising on Shujaa’s defensive lapse at the ruck to score a centre-post try that briefly silenced the home crowd.
Shujaa, however, hit back just before halftime when Nygel Amaitsa powered through the defence after Sanchez Lopez was sin-binned, levelling the scores 7-7 at the break.

The second half remained highly contested, with Shogun seeing a try disallowed for obstruction on Kevin Wekesa.
With under 40 seconds to play, substitute Floyd Wabwire produced a moment of brilliance, cutting inside and beating several defenders to dive under the posts and hand Shujaa a decisive 14-7 lead.
Shujaa then held firm after the restart as Shogun’s late knock-on ended their hopes of a comeback, sealing Kenya’s fourth consecutive Safari 7s title.
In the bronze final, Kenya Morans defeated Zimbabwe Cheetahs 19-12 to claim third place. John Okoth opened the scoring after shrugging off two defenders, before Brian Mutua added another try straight from the restart for a 12-0 lead.
Okoth completed his brace in the second half, with late efforts from Tavonga Ablant and Dion Kumalo proving insufficient for Zimbabwe.
National 7s Circuit champions KCB Rugby finished fifth after edging UK Select 19-17 in a closely fought playoff.
