Uganda Rugby Union have appointed Allan Otim as the Caretaker Head of the National Rugby Sevens Team.
His appointment comes hours after they confirmed the exit Tolbert Onyango from the head coach role.

Otim’s first assignment is set to be the Safari 7s tournament slated for 10-12 October at Nyayo Stadium.
“In light of Coach Onyango’s departure, the Uganda Rugby Union is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Otim Allan as the Caretaker Head of the National Rugby Sevens Team. Mr. Allan has worked closely with Coach Onyango over the years, and brings with him a deep understanding of the team’s dynamics and strategies. We are confident that under his guidance, the team will continue to build on this strong legacy and deliver outstanding performances,” URU chairman Godwin Arinaitwe Kayangwe announced.

“Mr. Otim Allan promises great service and dedication as he steps into this crucial role during this transition period,’ his statement added.
“We are profoundly grateful to Coach Onyango for his decade of exceptional service and extend our best wishes to both him and Coach Allan as they embark on their respective next chapters,” it concluded.

On Onyango’s exit, Kayangwe said: ‘It is with mixed emotions that I write to inform you of the decision by Mr. Tolbert Onyango to step down as the Head Coach of the Uganda National Rugby Sevens Team after an extraordinary 10-year tenure. Mr. Onyango has been an integral figure in shaping Uganda’s rugby landscape, and his departure marks the end of a remarkable era.”
“Over the last decade, Coach Onyango has demonstrated unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and a passion and a character that has significantly elevated the profile of Uganda Rugby Sevens both regionally and internationally. Under his stewardship, the team achieved numerous milestones,” he added.
