The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has confirmed that an Under-16 age-grade tournament will serve as the curtain-raiser for the 2025 Safari 7s.
The two-day competition is scheduled for 9th–10th October 2025 and will feature eight teams representing different regions across the country.
The participating teams include Nairobi, Eastern, Coast, International Schools, Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley, and Central.
According to KRU, the tournament will also serve as trials to identify and select players who will form a provisional Kenya U16 national squad.
The selected team will go on to represent the country at the Africa Youth Olympic Games in Angola this December.

The 2025 edition marks the return of the Safari 7s to Nyayo National Stadium for the first time since 2021, when Shujaa defeated Germany in the final to lift the trophy.
The tournament was held at the RFUEA Grounds in 2023 and at Machakos Stadium in 2024.
This year will be the fourth time the 35,000-seater Nyayo Stadium hosts the event, having previously staged it in 2011, 2012, and 2021 after growing attendance outgrew the RFUEA Grounds.
Kenya’s Shujaa and Costa Blanca Ladies are the reigning champions, having claimed the men’s and women’s titles respectively at the 2024 tournament in Machakos.
