Onyango’s exit comes after 10 years of service, during which he guided Uganda to four Rugby Africa Cup Sevens titles and two Rugby World Cup Sevens appearances.

His decision comes shortly after taking up a coaching role with Uganda Rugby Premiership giants Heathens Rugby Football Club.
He was unveiled in May as the new head coach, ushering in a new era for the country’s most successful rugby side.
Onyango succeeded veteran tactician Mohammad Athiyo, who stepped down after nearly a decade at the helm.
Athiyo’s reign was highly successful, yielding five league titles, three Uganda Cups, one Sevens Series championship, and two unbeaten seasons, including a treble-winning campaign in 2023–24.
