Elgon Wolves and Gulu City Falcons have been relegated from the Uganda 7s Series after finishing at the bottom of the men’s standings in the just cocluded 2025 edition.
The Wolves, who ended the campaign in 11th place with 43 points, and the Falcons, who finished last on 27 points, both lost their core status as the series wrapped up at the Buffaloes 7s last weekend.
For Elgon Wolves, it marked a painful end to what had been a fairytale journey. The Mbale-based side had enjoyed two seasons in the National 7s Series and one stint in the 15s championship, but their fate was sealed in dramatic fashion.
Going into the Kabale 7s, the Wolves were clinging to survival hopes and desperate to close the gap on the Eagles.
However, their situation worsened after they were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, Michael Ochieng, who had previously featured for Kenya Harlequins in the Kenya 7s.

According to the National 7s Committee, Ochieng had been misrepresented under a different name, leading to the Wolves being docked the 10 points they had earned at Kabale. That deduction left them 15 points adrift of safety, with little chance of recovery.
The Gulu Falcons, meanwhile, never quite found their footing throughout the series, finishing at the foot of the table with just 27 points.
As per competition rules, the bottom two men’s teams and one women’s side drop out of the National 7s Series at the end of the season.
To determine their replacements, a core status qualifying tournament will be held, featuring eight men’s teams and four women’s sides from across the country, all vying for promotion.
