The 2025 Dala 7s Cup quarterfinals produced fireworks at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, Mamboleo, with defending champions Kabras RFC, Menengai Oilers, Daystar Falcons, and KCB all storming into the semifinals.

The highlight of the round came in the last Cup quarterfinal where KCB edged Strathmore Leos 15-14 in a nail-biting finish.

KCB Win Last-Second Thriller Against Leos

Vincent Onyala opened the scoring for the bankers with an unconverted try, but the Leos roared back through Brian Mwendwa’s converted effort for a 7-5 halftime lead.

George Ooro struck after the break to swing the score 10-7 in KCB’s favour, only for Samuel Wafula to restore the Leos’ advantage with a converted try for 14-10.

With seconds left on the clock, Ooro crossed the whitewash again to hand KCB a dramatic 15-14 victory and a place in the last four.

Kabras Cruise Past Nondies

Earlier, Kabras RFC opened the day with a commanding 19-5 win over Nondescripts.

Mathias Osimbo and Eric Cantona gave the sugarmen an early 12-0 cushion before Tony Fidens Odhiambo pulled one back for Nondies. Kevin Wekesa then sealed the result before halftime with a powerful try to secure Kabras’ spot in the semis.

Menengai Oilers also flexed their muscle, thrashing Mwamba 36-5. Beldad Ogeta scored twice in quick succession before John Okoth, Brian Kipchirchir, Nelson Makokha, and Alvin Khavoli all dotted down.

Mwamba managed a late consolation through Byron Webbo, but the Oilers were already cruising into the next round.

Daystar Edge Nakuru in Tight Battle

In another tense clash, Daystar Falcons edged Nakuru 12-10. Cyprian Ombaso gave Nakuru the lead, but Daystar’s Patrick Odongo responded with a brace of tries to make it 12-5 at the break.

Ombaso struck again late for Nakuru, but the conversion sailed wide, handing the Falcons a slim win and a Cup semifinal berth.
