Dala 7s: Nakuru, Nondies join quarters, Oilers upset Leos as day 1 wraps up

The opening day of the Dala 7s at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, Mamboleo, Kisumu, ended with Nakuru, Nondescripts sealing their places in the quarterfinals, while Oilers stunned Strathmore Leos to top Pool D in the final round of matches.

In Pool A, Nakuru upset MMUST 24-19 to snatch second place in the group and secure their ticket to the last eight.

The result left them level on five points with MMUST and Catholic Monks, but Nakuru advanced courtesy of a superior points difference.

Tournament defending champions Kabras RFC maintained a 100% record after edging out Monks 19-14 to finish top of the group on nine points.

Pool B saw Nondescripts close Day 1 on a high with a 29-5 victory over Kenya Harlequin, a win that booked them a quarterfinal slot on seven points.

Daystar Falcons, who had already secured progression with two earlier wins, wrapped up their pool campaign with a commanding 41-0 win over Mombasa.

In Pool C, Homeboyz bagged their first win of the day after beating Embu RFC 31-0.

The pool decider saw KCB maintain their perfect run, overpowering Mwamba 33-5 to top the group.

Pool D produced the upset of the round as Menengai Oilers defeated Strathmore Leos 24-7 to finish unbeaten.

Dennis Abukuse gave Oilers the lead before Victor Mola Odhiambo leveled for Leos.

Beldad Ogeta restored Oilers’ advantage at halftime, with second-half tries from Daniel Kipchirchir and Philip Okeyo sealing the win.

Earlier, hosts Kisumu RFC delighted their fans with a narrow 15-12 victory over Impala RFC to avoid finishing bottom of the pool.

Following the results Kabras RFC, Nakuru RFC, Daystar Falcons, Nondescripts, KCB RFC, Mwamba RFC, Menengai Oilers, and Strathmore Leos have booked their places in the last eight.
