The 2025 Gulu 7s, the second leg of the 2025 Uganda 7s Series, kicked off on August 9 at the Pece War Memorial Stadium with a thrilling day of action that saw Rhinos, Kobs, Mongers, and Walukuba Barbarians topping their pools to advance to the knockout stage.
In Pool A, Walukuba Barbarians stunned defending series champions Black Pirates 14-12 in their last match after a 31-26 win over Gulu City Falcons in their second one, having earlier blanked Black Arrows 26-0.
They finished on a perfect nine points, joined in the quarterfinals by Pirates, who secured second with seven points. Gulu City Falcons and Black Arrows finished last in the pool.

Pool B produced a tight contest, with Kobs and Eagles both advancing. Kobs, unbeaten with two wins and a draw, earned eight points after hammering invitational side Lira Big Boys 50-0 before edging Rams 12-0 then drew 05-05 with Heathens in their last match. Eagles, who stunned Heathens 12-10 in their second match of the day finished second with seven points. Heathens were third on six points, while Lira Big Boys failed to register a win.

Mongers were the class act in Pool C, sweeping all three matches for nine points, including a gritty 5-0 victory over Buffaloes in their pool decider.

Buffaloes claimed second place with seven points, Hippos came third, and invitational side Lira Bulls ended winless.

Pool D saw Rhinos and Rams locked in a 7-7 draw in their head-to-head, but Rhinos’ better points difference earned them first place. Both advanced with eight points, while Elgon Wolves and Kitgum Lions were finished last in the pool.

With the knockout stage set for August 10, the top seeds will be aiming to convert their strong starts into silverware in Gulu.
The men’s Cup quarterfinal line-up at the Gulu 7s will see KOBs face Buffaloes, Walukuba Barbarians take on Rams, Rhinos meet Pirates, and Mongers clash with Eagles in what promises to be a thrilling knockout stage.
