KCB Rugby head coach Dennis Mwanja has praised his team’s discipline and composure after they were crowned champions of the 2025 Driftwood 7s, the opening leg of the National Sevens Circuit held at the Mombasa Sports Club over the weekend.

The victory marked a return to the top for the bankers, who last won the Driftwood title in 2019 and had narrowly missed out on the crown in 2024.

“The boys stuck to the game plan and showed great discipline throughout the tournament. It’s always special to win in Mombasa, and we’re proud to bring the Driftwood title back to KCB,” Mwanja said following the hard-fought final win over Strathmore Leos.

KCB laid down their title credentials early, topping Pool C with an unbeaten run in the group stages. They followed that up with a dominant 29-0 quarterfinal win over Menengai Oilers before edging fierce rivals Kabras Sugar 10-5 in a tense semifinal.

In the final, the bankers fended off a spirited Strathmore Leos outfit 15-14 to secure the crown and collect the maximum 22 points on offer, placing them at the top of the National 7s Circuit standings.

KCB now turn their attention to the second leg of the series, the Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru, set for 2nd–3rd August.

They headline Pool C, where they’ll face Nondescripts, CUEA, and Kisumu RFC as they seek to maintain their early momentum.
