KCB Rugby are the 2025 Driftwood 7s champions after a narrow 15-14 victory over Strathmore Leos in the final played at Mombasa Sports Club.

The Thika Road-based side went into the final seeking to add another Driftwood title to their collection, having previously won in 2012, 2013, and 2019.

Strathmore Leos, on the other hand, were aiming for their second title since 2009.

How the final unfolded

Dennis Mwanja’s men started strongly, with Elvis Olukusi powering over the line for the opening try and a 5-0 lead.

Floyd Wabwire then showed blistering pace, racing clear for KCB’s second try, extending their lead to 10-0 after a missed conversion.

Olukusi added his second try on the left wing just before halftime, sending the bankers into the break with a 15-0 advantage.

In the second half, Barnabas Owuor pulled one back for Leos, narrowing the gap to 15-7. A yellow card for KCB gave Strathmore an opportunity, and they capitalized with a penalty try to cut the deficit to 15-14.

Kabras clinch third place

Kabras RFC finished third after defeating Nakuru RFC 21-10.

Nakuru struck first, capitalizing on a Kabras overthrown lineout to score for a 5-0 lead within the opening three minutes.

Kabras responded through Roy Maruti, who spotted a defensive gap and sprinted under the posts for a converted try by Jackson Siketi, making it 7-5.

Brian Mutua extended the lead to 14-5 with a powerful hand-off before crossing over.

Maruti completed his brace to stretch Kabras’ lead to 21-5, while Nakuru managed a late unconverted try, but the Kakamega-based side had done enough to secure third place.
