Menengai Oilers snap up South Coast Pirates dependable back rower

Menengai Oilers have bolstered their squad with the signing of South Coast Pirates back rower Collins Kabayo in the recently concluded transfer window.

Kabayo departs the Pirates after seven years of dedicated service, having joined the club in 2017 while still a high school student.

His journey with the Coastal side saw him develop into a central figure, making 42 appearances and playing a key role in their historic promotion to the Kenya Cup.

“After seven years of service, South Coast Pirates bids farewell to one of our own — Collins Kabayo, who departs the club after a standout spell in the back row. Kabayo joined Pirates in 2017 while still a high school student, bringing with him raw passion and a fierce commitment to the game,” read part of the club’s farewell statement.

Kabayo capped off his final season as the club’s top try scorer with five tries, underlining his impact on and off the field. The club praised his contribution, leadership, and loyalty, calling him an inspiration for emerging talent from the Coast region.

“The entire Pirates family thanks Kabayo for his immense contribution, leadership, and loyalty. His journey is an inspiration to many of our upcoming players from the Coast. We wish him nothing but success in the next chapter of his rugby career.”

In an emotional farewell, Kabayo expressed gratitude to the club that nurtured his rugby dream.

“It’s been an amazing journey with South Coast Pirates, a club that shaped me from a young, ambitious boy into the player I am today,” he said.

“I’m forever grateful to the coaches, management, fans, and most importantly, my teammates who became brothers. Wearing the Pirates jersey has been an honour, and every match was a chance to represent the Coast with pride. Though I move on, this club will always be home. See you soon, in different colours but with the same respect. Asanteni sana.”
