Kenya Simbas captain George Nyambua has issued a passionate rallying call to fans in Uganda to turn up in numbers and support the Simbas ahead of their high-stakes Rugby Africa Cup semi-final clash against Zimbabwe at Namboole Stadium in Kampala.

Speaking on the eve of the eagerly anticipated encounter, Nyambua emphasized the unity of East Africa and the power of fan support, referencing the vibrant atmosphere witnessed during Kenya’s 33-24 quarterfinal victory over hosts Uganda.

Nyambua’s call

“We saw during our match against Uganda, our fans turned up in large numbers,” Nyambua said. “So tomorrow (today), I’m calling upon Kenyans in Uganda and Ugandan fans as well to come and support us because this is now an East African affair.”

With Uganda having exited the competition, Kenya remains the region’s last hope in the tournament, and Nyambua believes solidarity from East African neighbours could give the Simbas the extra edge needed to conquer the formidable Sables of Zimbabwe.

The semi-final is expected to be a bruising contest, with both sides eyeing a place in the final and potential qualification implications on the line.

Kenya, buoyed by their performance against the Rugby Cranes, will be counting on their explosive backline and improved forward play but equally on the 16th man in the stands.

Kick-off is set for Sunday at Namboole, and all eyes will be on the Simbas to fly the East African flag high.
