After a remarkable performance in this year’s KSSSA 15s national games in Mombasa, Kisii School have claimed the Western Region Prescott Cup title.
The tournament organized by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), and the regional round held at St. Mary’s Yala saw three schools participate on a registration basis.
Kisii faced off against familiar opponents—hosts St. Mary’s Yala and archrivals Butula School—and comfortably won both matches.
In their opening match, Kisii played against Yala and secured a commanding 17-7 win.
The much-anticipated clash against Butula Boys followed with Kisii winning 17-5 . Their last meeting in the national games had ended in a barren draw, but this time, Kisii showed intent from the onset.
Speedster Ezra Moronge opened the scoring with a dazzling run to the try line, though fullback Laystone Onduko missed the conversion.

Prevailer Baraka extended Kisii’s lead after finishing off a powerful maul, with Matrix Matangi stepping up to convert and make it 12 points. Butula responded with an unconverted try to stay in contention.
However, Kisii’s dominance was sealed when winger Jan Paulsen crossed over from open play after receiving a perfectly timed pass from outside centre Chaz Francis, who drew the defenders before offloading.
Kisii School head coach Lee Aston, a newly accredited World Rugby Level 2 coach, expressed satisfaction with the performance and emphasized the importance of the tournament in their larger preparations.
“We are using these games as warm up matches as we prepare for the East African Games later this year. We’ve worked on correcting the mistakes we made in our last outing,” said Coach Aston.
