Uganda’s Philip Wokorach to feature in inaugural India Rugby Premier League

Uganda’s Philip Wokorach has been announced as the latest international star to join the inaugural India Rugby Premier League (RPL)

Wokorach, who plays both 7s and test rugby for Uganda’s Rugby Cranes national teams, will represent the Bengaluru Brave Hearts franchise.

His teammates include New Zealanders Akuila Rokolisoa, Tone Ng Shiu, and Scott Curry, as well as Iowane Teba from Fiji and Pol Pla from Spain.

Wokorach joined the team earlier this week after completing a brief one-week training session with the Rugby Cranes in preparation for the upcoming Rugby Africa Cup.

The India Rugby Premier League is a professional franchise rugby 7s league organized by Rugby India. It is modeled after cricket’s India Premier League (IPL) and aims to enhance the popularity of rugby in India.

The inaugural edition will take place from June 15-29 and will feature six franchises: Bengaluru Brave Hearts, Chennai Bulls, Delhi Redz, Hyderabad Heroes, Kalinga Black Tigers, and Mumbai Dreamers.

In addition to Philip Wokorach, Kenyan players Patrick Odongo and Kevin Wekesa will also feature in the inaugural India Rugby Premier League.
