Kenyan clubs made an emphatic statement in the first round of day one of the inaugural Kampala 7s, overpowering their Ugandan counterparts in a thrilling display of sevens rugby at Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere, Uganda.
KAMPALA 7s ROUND 1
The first round saw Ugandan teams struggling as Kenyan sides dominated, with Strathmore Leos and Nondescripts registering convincing wins over Mongers 34–07 and Buffaloes 22–07 respectively.
Uganda’s KOBs suffered a heavy 40–00 defeat to fellow local side Emerging Cranes, while another home giant, Heathens, went down 24–07 to South Africa’s All Stars.
In one of the few Ugandan victories, Rams edged out Warriors 15–07. However, hosts Black Pirates were handed a tough 32–00 loss by invitational team Shogun in a disappointing start to their campaign.

The 12-team competition, which is being held for the first time, runs from May 31 to June 1 and has been divided into three pools.
Pool A is headlined by hosts Black Pirates, who are joined by Lifeguard Rams, Warriors, and invitational side Shogun Rugby.
Kampala 7s Pool B features Ugandan giants Heathens and KOBs, alongside Emerging Cranes and the SA All Stars.
Kampala 7s Pool C brings together Buffaloes, Mongers, and Kenyan sides Strathmore Leos and Nondescripts (Nondies).
