The Kenya Legends rugby team secured a hard-fought 19-17 victory over Uganda Legends in the first leg of the 2025 Legends Cup, held on Saturday, 24 May at the Kyadondo Rugby Football Club in Kampala.
Coached by former Impala tactician Oscar Osir, the Kenyan side continued their dominance over Uganda, registering a fifth consecutive win against their regional rivals.
UGANDA LEGENDS BRIGHT START
Uganda struck first in the early exchanges, with Davis Kyewalabye slotting in a penalty to give the hosts a 3-0 lead.
However, the Kenyan Legends responded with two tries before halftime, one of which was converted, to take a 12-3 lead into the break.

Shortly after the restart, Kenya extended their lead further when Darwin Mukidza crossed over for a try and successfully converted it, pushing the score to 19-3 in favor of the visitors.

Uganda mounted a spirited comeback, with Laurence Ssebuliba scoring their first try of the match, which was converted by Chris Lubanga. Moments later, Kyewalabye added a try of his own, with Lubanga again adding the extras to narrow the gap to just two points.
Despite Uganda’s late surge, the Kenyan Legends held firm to seal a 19-17 win.

This latest victory adds to Kenya’s growing record against Uganda. In their last encounter on 29 September 2024 at the RFUEA Grounds, Kenya secured a 24-15 win, having already claimed a 26-15 first-leg victory to take the series 50-30 on aggregate.
Kenya also lifted the 2023 title with a commanding 69-18 aggregate win. Their latest triumph now extends their winning streak to five straight matches against the Ugandan Legends.
