Black Pearls remain at the summit of the Uganda women’s rugby premiership rankings with 55 points after extending their unbeaten run with a dominant 65–14 win against Avengers over the weekend.

Black Pearls’ performance not only secured another victory but also earned them a crucial bonus point, marking 11 wins from 11 matches and a remarkable points difference of +456.

Thunderbirds, currently second with 50 points, responded strongly with a massive 68–0 triumph over Nile Rapids. Although they boast a superior points difference of +529, on their side, they must defeat Black Pearls in their final match at Kyadondo and deny them any points to stand a chance of clinching the title.

Black Pearls and Thunderbirds are the only teams that can mathematically win the championship, setting up a high-stakes showdown on the final day.

AVENGERS SIT THIRD

Behind the top two, Avengers sit comfortably in third place with 23 points, but their heavy defeat to Black Pearls showed the gap between them and the league leaders. The Avengers will aim to finish their season on a positive note when they face the Panthers.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Ewes, who have 16 points, suffered a tough 18–15 loss to Panthers a result that leaves their fourth-place position vulnerable. She Wolves, fresh off a 20–0 walkover win against Nile Rapids, have climbed to fifth place with 15 points, just one point behind Ewes. The battle between Ewes and She Wolves at Makerere will be critical in deciding who finishes higher on the table.

Nile Rapids, with 14 points, have completed their season after a difficult campaign that ended with heavy defeats against Thunderbirds and She Wolves. Despite their early-season efforts, the Rapids slipped to sixth place following recent results.

Panthers finally celebrated their first victory of the season with a thrilling 18–15 win over Ewes. Although they remain bottom of the table with 13 points, the breakthrough win boosted morale as they head into their last game against the Avengers.

Unlike the men’s premiership, which was decided by a playoff where Pirates emerged champions after a hard-fought 44-!3 extra-time win over Hippos, the Uganda Women’s Rugby Premiership title will go to the team with the highest total points at the end of the regular season.

All eyes are now on Kyadondo, where the ultimate title decider between Black Pearls and Thunderbirds will bring the 2025 season to a thrilling conclusion.
