Kenya Lionesses down Belgium for a winning start in Poland

Kenya Lionesses began the final leg of the Challenger Series with a 12-0 win over Belgium in their opening match played in Krakow, Poland, on Friday morning, 11th April 2025.

The game kicked off with an early advantage for Kenya when Belgium’s Margaux Lalli was sent to the sin bin just four minutes in. Despite being a player down, the Belgian side demonstrated remarkable resilience, holding firm against the Lionesses’ aggressive advances for much of the first half.

KENYA LIONESSES BREAKTHROUGH

As halftime approached, the pressure mounted, and Kenya’s persistence finally paid off. Sinaida Mokaya Nyachio received a well-timed pass from Naomi Amuguni. With a deft dummy to the left, Mokaya sprinted through the defense and crossed the try line, scoring the opening try of the match. She confidently converted her own try, putting Kenya ahead 7-0 at the break.

The second half saw Belgium continue to fight back, but Kenya’s dominance was evident. The Lionesses showcased a solid defensive line, quickly shutting down any threats from their opponents. Mokaya was not done yet, she made her mark again by crossing over for her second try of the match. Although Grace Adhiambo missed the conversion attempt, it was clear that Kenya had sealed their victory with a final score of 12-0.

The Kenya Lionesses are in Pool A alongside Belgium, Thailand, and Colombia. After dominant performances in the first two legs in Cape Town where they emerged champions and they will be looking to maintain their momentum in this crucial round in Poland.

Next up, the Lionesses face Thailand at 3:20 PM, before wrapping up their day with a final pool match against Colombia at 6:28 PM.

This is the final leg of the series in Krakow, Poland. Sitting atop the standings with 40 points, Kenya is now aiming to secure a spot in the HSBC SVNS playoff tournament in Los Angeles.
