The Zimbabwe Sables have welcomed former captain Denford Mutamangira as their new scrummaging specialist in preparation for the Rugby Africa Cup scheduled for July 2025.

The Sables made the announcement through their social media platforms, expressing their intent to build on their victorious 2024 Rugby Africa Cup campaign.

“Team News: Denford Mutamangira, former Sables captain, joins as scrummaging specialist ahead of the Rugby Africa Cup in July. Zimbabwe aims to build on recent successes,” read the announcement.

Mutamangira, a seasoned prop, began his rugby career at Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe in 2004. His talent soon earned him a move to Scotland, where he played for BT Premiership side Ayr RFC in 2012. During the 2012-2013 season, Ayr RFC claimed the RBS League title, the RBS Scottish Cup, and was named RBS Team of the Season.

In 2013, Mutamangira was part of the back-up squad for the Glasgow Warriors. He featured in their pre-season friendly against Aberdeen GSFP and was named in the club’s 38-man Heineken Cup squad.

The prop returned to Harare Sports Club in 2014 before earning a spot with the South African Super Rugby side, the Sharks, in 2015. Unfortunately, a knee injury prevented him from participating in the scheduled match against the Xerox Golden Lions.

Mutamangira’s leadership qualities were recognized when he was appointed captain of the Zimbabwe national team on June 7, 2015 and helped the Sables secure the Africa Cup title in 2014.
