Menengai Oilers receive major boost ahead of playoffs

Menengai Oilers have received a timely boost ahead of their crucial Kenya Cup playoff clash against KU Blak Blad, with four key players returning from injury.

Skipper Ibrahim Ayoo, Emmanuel Mulindo, Samson Onsomu, and Abutwalib Wesonga have all been declared fit and are available for selection.

Ayoo last played against Nondies on matchday seven in early February and he will be making a return after being sent off in the match.

Experience Onsomu is available after missing the Enterprise Cup match against Nondies. Emmanuel Mulindo and Abutwalib Wesonga who missed the last two outings is also back for the match.

The Oilers will host Blak Blad at the Refinery Grounds on March 22, having secured a home playoff after finishing 3rd in the regular season with 47 points.

Their opponents, KU Blak Blad, finished 6th with 26 points. The winner of this match will advance to the semifinals, where they will face KCB Rugby, the second-placed team with 50 points.

This resurgence in squad depth comes at a historic time for Menengai Oilers.

Over the weekend, they overwhelmed Nondescripts 41-10 in Nakuru to book their place in their first-ever Enterprise Cup final.

Their journey to the final was impressive, beginning with an 80-17 demolition of Daystar University in the Round of 16, followed by a walkover victory (28-0) against Homeboyz in the quarterfinals.

The Oilers will meet defending champions Kabras Sugar in the Enterprise Cup final, a team they battled fiercely in the Kenya Cup regular season, narrowly losing 20-14 at the Nakuru ASK Grounds.

With momentum on their side, the Nakuru-based outfit is determined to make a deep run in both the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup.

The Kenya Cup playoffs are scheduled for March 22, with the semifinals set for March 29 and the grand final on April 12, 2025.
