Mwamba RFC secured a commanding 29-15 victory over Blak Blad in the Kenya Cup final match at RFUEA Grounds.
However, despite their win, Mwamba are set for relegation due to their inferior head-to-head record against Impala as well as point differential with both tied at 16 points.
Mwamba win
The match kicked off with Mwamba taking a narrow 9-6 lead into halftime, courtesy of three penalties converted by Tony Onyango. Blak Blad’s Daniel Oyoo kept his side in the contest, scoring two penalties to keep the scoreline tight.
In the second half, Mwamba extended their advantage with an early unconverted try. Just four minutes later, centre Brian Ayimba added another try, which was successfully converted, pushing Mwamba’s lead to 21-6.
Blak Blad responded with two more penalties, closing the gap to 21-12. But Mwamba answered back with a penalty of their own, taking the score to 23-12.

The final blow came in the 64th minute when Steve Sikuta crossed the line for a try, extending Mwamba’s lead to 29-12. Blak Blad managed to score a penalty, but it was too little too late, as the match concluded 29-15 in Mwamba’s favour.
Despite the victory, Mwamba’s four points brought their total to 16, which ties them with Impala.
However, due to their inferior head-to-head record, Mwamba will be relegated, leaving them with the bitter irony of a win that couldn’t prevent their drop.
