Kenya Lionesses roar into finals after hard-fought win over Colombia

The Kenya Lionesses secured their spot in the Challenger Series final with a determined 12-5 victory over Colombia in a thrilling semi-final clash held at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, South 

The match began as a tightly contested affair, with Colombia striking first to take a 5-0 lead at halftime, as the Lionesses struggled to break through Colombia’s defense in the opening half.

As the second half commenced, Kenya responded swiftly. Judith Okumu led the charge, breaking through Colombia’s defense to score a crucial try, leveling the match at 5-5.

Moments later, Sharon Auma delivered a sensational run, outmaneuvering Colombia’s defenders and crossing the try line. With a successful conversion, Kenya extended their lead to 12-5.

The Lionesses then held firm, maintaining their 12-5 advantage until the final whistle and securing their place in the final.

The Kenya Lionesses are now through to back-to-back finals in the HSBC Sevens Challenger Series. Their strong performance sets up a thrilling showdown against hosts South Africa, with the final kicking off at 20:51 EAT.

South Africa secured their spot with a 21-15 win over Czechia and will look to capitalize on home support. However, Kenya’s resilience and attacking power make them tough contenders as they aim for glory in Cape Town for the second  time.
