Kenya 7s centre Chrisant Ojwang has undergone surgery in Dubai, Shujaa have announced following the player’s injury during the Dubai 7s tournament.

Shujaa expressed their well wishes for Ojwang’s recovery, praising his recent academic achievement of earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Mombasa.

“We fervently wish our mercurial centre, Chrisant Ojwang ‘Jalupo,’ a swift recovery following his successful surgery in Dubai,” said Shujaa in a statement.

“Simultaneously, we applaud his stellar achievement in earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Mombasa.”

Ojwang, who made his debut with the team last year during the World Challenger Series, has since become a key player for Shujaa.

Meanwhile, the Shujaa team has already arrived in South Africa for the second leg of the Cape Town 7s, with Kevin Wambua’s charges drawn in a challenging pool alongside Spain and Australia.

The Shujaa will renew their rivalry with the Aussies after clashing last weekend and during the Olympics.

The World Rugby Sevens Series has introduced a new format for the Cape Town 7s, making the tournament even more competitive. This year’s edition will feature four pools of three teams, replacing the previous structure of three pools with four teams.

The winners of each pool will advance directly to the semi-finals.
