The 2025 HSBC SVNS season launched in spectacular style at the Sevens Stadium in Dubai 7s, with the event delivering electrifying rugby action, record-breaking feats, and a vibrant festival atmosphere.
.As the tournament heads into its second day, the quarter-finals line-up promises unmissable action in the men’s competition: Great Britain will face Spain, South Africa take on New Zealand, Fiji go head-to-head with France, and Argentina meet Australia.
In the women’s competition, Great Britain will take on Japan, New Zealand face Ireland, USA clash with France, and Australia battle Canada.
Fresh from their Olympic triumphs, New Zealand’s men and women demonstrated why they remain top contenders. In the women’s competition, both New Zealand and reigning HSBC SVNS champions Australia secured pool-topping performances, with Australia chasing a fifth consecutive Dubai title.
Ireland’s Aimee Leigh Murphy Crowe reached a milestone with her 200th SVNS try, while Australia’s Faith Nathan celebrated her 100th Series try, highlighting the immense talent on display.

In the men’s competition, Fiji and Argentina emerged as pace-setters, with both teams winning all their pool matches. Meanwhile, South Africa kept their Dubai dominance alive with a dramatic golden-point victory over Olympic champions France, setting up a showdown with New Zealand.
Spanish rugby celebrated a landmark day as both the men’s and women’s teams advanced to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2019.
The women broke a 22-game losing streak against France, while the men achieved a rare victory over New Zealand to secure their spot in the last eight. Day two kicks off on Sunday at 09:20 local time (GMT+4) with quarter-finals action.
