Kenya Simbas move up in World Rugby Rankings, Springboks assume top spot

Kenya Simbas have climbed one spot to 36th in the World Rugby Rankings following their 27-22 victory over Uganda in the first leg of the Elgon Cup, held at RFUEA Grounds on Saturday.

The win awarded them an additional 0.74 points, propelling them past Uganda, who have dropped to 37th. This Elgon Cup win marks Kenya’s first international match since the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup, where they suffered defeats against Algeria and Namibia, while Uganda advanced by winning against Burkina Faso and Senegal.

The second leg of the Elgon Cup will be held in Kampala on Saturday, November 16, 2024, where the tournament winner will be determined.

On the global scene, South Africa now top the rankings with 92.46 points following their ninth consecutive victory, a 32-15 win against Scotland in the Castle Lager Outgoing Tour opener at Murrayfield.

The Springboks scored four tries, showcasing their dominance over a resilient Scotland side, with Jasper Wiese scoring the final try. Meanwhile, the All Blacks moved to second after a disciplined 23-13 victory over Ireland, breaking the latter’s 19-game winning streak at Aviva Stadium.

Fiji moved up to ninth after their historic win over Wales in Cardiff, sending Italy down to 10th following a loss to Argentina. The USA climbed three places to 16th after beating Portugal, who remains in 15th, and Spain rose to 17th after a 32-24 win over Uruguay, with Uruguay dropping to 19th.

Brazil made the most significant leap, climbing four places to 26th after a 23-10 win over Hong Kong China
