Kenya Lionesses defeated Madagascar 22-17 to win their third pool game in the ongoing Rugby Africa Women’s 7s in Accra, Ghana.
The Lionesses started the game on a wrong footing as they’d conceded two tries in the first three minutes.
Lady Makis scored their first try in the corner which they failed to convert. Few seconds later, they would capitalise on defensive lapses from Lionesses to score their second try just under the posts. They converted the try to lead 12-0.
Lionesses started to find their footing and it was Judith Akumu who scored first with Sharon Auma scoring the second just at the stroke of halftime. Grace Auma attempt on converting the two tries was unsuccessful.
After the break, Kenya Lionesses scored two tries with Madagascar going over once. Stella Wafula scored the first try of the second half to give Lionesses a lead for the first time in the game.
Grace Auma would add another try minutes later to take the scores to 22-12. Lady Makis cut the deficit with a try later which went unconverted to take the scores to 22-17.
Lady Makis would level the scores in the last stages of the game but Lionesses’ defence stood firm to win the game 22-17.
