Heathens clinch Uganda National 7s Series title after 11 years

Heathens RFC are the 2024 Uganda Nile Special 7s Series champions after finishing second in the final round-Rujumba7s which was played at the King’s Park, Bweyogerere.

In a thrilling showdown at the Rujumba 7s, Pirates were crowned Rujumba 7s champions after defeating Heathens 17-12 in the final which had to be decided at sudden death after a 12-12 draw at full-time.

Timothy Kisiga’s try and a successful conversion gave Pirates a 07-00 lead before Heathens Malcolm Okello managed a try but missed on the conversion bringing the scores to 07-05 at halftime.

Paul Bogota came in with a brilliant try for Pirates minutes after halftime but missed on the conversion making Pirates take a 12-05 lead, Heathens quickly responded with a try from Nobert Okeny which Okello made no mistakes in converting making matters 12-12 at full-time.

This forced the match to head into sudden death where Conrad Wanyama came in with a try that gave Pirates the Rujumba 7s title with a 17-12 victory.

Despite losing the final, this could not stop Heathens from bagging the overall title which they last won in 2013 as they had solidified their position at the top of the Nile Special 7s Men’s series standings by reaching in the final of the Rujumba 7s.

Heathens captain Malcolm Okello was named the tournament MVP where he was the top point scorer with 313 points.

The 2024 Uganda 7s Series concluded this weekend after seven successful rounds with a new champion, Impis and Warriors were not lucky as they were relegated.
