The Uganda Rugby Union have announced the Uganda U20 Women’s Rugby squad to South Africa for the U20 African Series.
In a statement by the URU, the rugby fraternity said they were pleased with the fundraiser which collected funds to cater for the U20 Crane’s trip to South Africa..
URU has confirmed that the U20 RugbyCranes have officially left for the inaugural U20 African Series in South Africa where they will face Tunisia and the junior Springbok women at Stellenbosch on October 4 and 8 respectively.
The team of 25 was flagged off on October 2 with other officials from Kyadondo by the Uganda Rugby Secretary General, Peter Odong.
The tournament organized by the South Africa Rugby Union (SARU) will be a historic moment as the under-20 women’s team has never been to an international stage.

Secretary General Peter Odong revealed, ” We are confident that the experience they will gain from the tournament will be invaluable in their development as the athletes and ambassadors for Uganda rugby.”
In addition to that, their Head Coach Brian Nabutaala Makalama expressed his confidence in the squad as he said, ” The girls have shown incredible commitment and drive in their preparation and I believe they will give a good account of themselves in the field.”
Makala added, ” Our goal is not only to compete but to build a solid foundation for the future of women’s rugby in Uganda. We want this place to gain invaluable experience grow confidence and inspire more young girls to pick up the sport.”
