The Kabeberi 7s semi-final pairings have been confirmed with KCB Rugby, Menengai Oilers, Kenya Harlequin and Catholic Monks being the last men standing after the quarters at RFUEA Grounds.

KCB rugby will tackle varsity side Catholic Monks while Kenya Harlequin face Menengai Oilers in the second semi-final.

Kabras Kabeberi 7s elimination

For the second season in a row, Kabras suffered a quarterfinal exit at Kabeberi 7s to Menengai Oilers.  This time round they lost 19-12 in the Rai Derby.

The Log leaders Kabras were first on the scoreboard after a big tackle by Jackton Osoo allowed Kabras to overturn possession in the ruck before Brian Mutua offloaded to Alfred Orege to dot down in the corner.

Oilers would hit back moments later, Abukuse breaking on the outside before offloading to Steve Arunga to open the Oilers’ account.

The Nakuru-based side would score next through Beldad Ogeta after an outrageous cross kick from skipper Crispin Shitundo for a 12-7 lead at halftime.

Abukuse would field another crosskick before breaking three tackles to score between the sticks for a 19-7 lead. Kabras would pull on back through Erick Cantona after Derrick Ashihundu stepped away from his markers for an offload to an oncoming Cantona near the centre of the pitch.  Despite later pressure, the Oilers held on to win.

Monks return

Catholic Monks are back in the Cup semis after last week’s miss following after frustrating Strathmore Leos for a 12-5 win.

A cagey opening to the varsity Derby as both teams sniffed for any weakness in what was set up as a mental affair.

Leos would be penalised twice early in the first stanza to allow the Monks to relieve pressure from their territory.

Monks would then draw first blood, Samuel Omollo finding himself with space on the outside to gain momentum before shrugging off Arnold Muita to score on the outside.

Andrew Matoka would miss an opportunity to pull level for Leos after a Monks player unsuspectingly knocked the ball off his hands a few meters out.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Leos would score first in the second stanza, Nygel Amaitsa benefiting from a George Ooro offload to dot down in the corner for a 5-5 scoreline.

Substitute Brian Nyamboki would score the winner for Monks who had successfully repelled continued Leos attacks up to now. Nyamboki in the Nyamboki version caught the Leos napping at the breakdown of the scrum after selling a dummy and raced clear of a chasing Muita to score the winner for Monks.

KCB Rugby flawless run

Defending Champions KCB Rugby managed a 24-0 win over Daystar to return to the semis after missing out last weekend.

Daystar would be first on the attack, a menacing run by Duncan Olile thwarted just outside the 22 with no blue shirt around to keep the ball moving.

Jacob Ojee would then step inside into a gap before racing away for KCB’s first try. Samuel Asati would then add another for the Bankers, slicing through a broken line for a 12-0 halftime score.

Emmanuel Opondo and Elvis Olukusi would score in the second stanza for a 24-0 full time score in a dominant show by the bankers.

Kenya Harlequin in semis again

Co-captain Amon Wamalwa led from the front as Kenya Harlequin saw off  MMUST 21-0 to reach the fourth consecutive semi-final this season.

Quins opened the scoring with slightly over two minutes of the first half left bone the clock, Amon Wamalwa snipping from the base of the scrum before losing his marker in the step to score between the uprights for a 7-0 lead at halftime.

Brian Ratillah would extend Quins’ lead halfway into the second half, diving over in the corner for the Quins’ second try for a 14-0 lead.

Wamalwa would score his second in similar fashion from five meters out to condemn MMUST 21-0 in the last quarter final of the day

For the fourth competition in a row, Kisumu have been relegated while Mwamba have suffered the relegation.  Impala on their part have suffered the second relegation from the top division and will be eyeing an invite in Mombasa.
