Kenya 7s lose to Argentina in Olympic Rugby 7s opener

Kenya 7s lost the Olympics Rugby 7s opening match played in Paris 31-12 to Argentina in the match played on Wednesday at Stade de France.

Shujaa headed into this match after an impressive run which saw them promoted back to the series.

Kenya 7s try

Kenya 7s enjoyed possession from the kick-off, and off a scrum in Argentina’s 22, Tony Omondi released a pass to Chrissant Ojwang, who accelerated and rounded his marker for a try that was converted for a 7-0 lead in the fourth minute.

The World 7s Series league phase champions pulled back in a similar fashion just before the break, with a long pass finding Agustin Fraga. The conversion attempt was off target, leaving the score at 7-5.

In the second half, Fraga landed the second try, which was converted for a 12-7 lead. Shujaa responded when an offload by Ojwang put Kevin Wekesa through to score a try that was converted for a 12-12 tie.

Argentina reclaimed the lead with Joaquin Pellandini landing a try for a 19-12 advantage. A counter-ruck allowed the Argentines to extend their lead with a try by Luciano Gonzalez.

Marcos Moneta, who came off the bench, landed a try that sealed the game for Argentina.
