Kenya Morans have joined South Africa and Zimbabwe in the Africa Men’s 7s quarterfinals after an emphatic 47-0 victory over Algeria.
Kenya took the lead with a try from Amon Wamalwa, who dotted down in the left corner after picking up the ball from the back of the scrum and racing to score.
Kenya Morans first tries
Gabriel Ayimba added the second try, wrestling past his markers, with Denis Mwanji converting for a 12-0 lead.
William Mwanji extended the lead, breaching the defence line and scoring the third try after changing direction to spot a gap.
Abukuse’s conversion brought the score to 19-0. From the restart, Kenya regained possession after the Algerians let the ball bounce, and Mwanji scored again after selling a dummy, bringing the halftime score to 26-0.
In the second half, Abukuse raced in for a converted try, pushing the score to 31-0. Festus Shiasi added another converted try for a 41-0 lead, and Victor Odhiambo sealed the match with a try in the left corner, finalizing the 48-0 win.
Kenya Morans opener
In their opener, the Morans defeated Zambia 26-7. Amon Wamalwa scored two consecutive tries, followed by a try from Victor Odhiambo, ensuring a 19-0 lead at halftime. Kenya added one more converted try in the second half to secure the 26-7 victory.
South Africa also qualified for the knockout stage with a match to spare after dominant performances in their opening two matches. They defeated Nigeria 45-7 in their opener and later thrashed hosts Mauritius 41-0, confirming their place in the last eight with one match against Zimbabwe remaining.
Zimbabwe secured their spot in the quarterfinals with impressive performances, defeating hosts Mauritius 31-7 and Nigeria 29-5 to book their place in the last eight.
