South Africa A came from behind to score twice and eliminate Kenya Morans in a 12-7 victory during the quarterfinal match played on Sunday morning at Labourdonnais Sports Grounds, Mauritius.

This was a repeat of last year’s final, though both sides were missing their first-team players who are preparing for the Olympics.

The Morans nearly scored the opener just after the kick-off when South Africa allowed the ball to bounce, but Victor Odhiambo was bundled out of play.

Despite having possession in South Africa’s 22 in the opening three minutes, Kenya could not convert it into a try.

William Mwanji’s big carry off a ruck saw him score for the Morans in the fourth minute after South Africa lost possession following a penalty.

Kenya continued to put pressure on South Africa, restricting them to just one entry in the other half.

In the second half, South Africa won a penalty, and Sebastiaan Jobb struck cut in for centre-post try, which was easily converted for a 7-7 tie.

Kenya then conceded a lineout in their own 22, and a short throw saw South Africa race with Jobb cutting in for another try. Their conversion attempt went wide despite being a centre-post try.

Denis Abukuse was yellow-carded for a high tackle, but South Africa conceded a penalty from an attacking scrum in Kenya’s five.

Uganda reached the semifinals following a sudden death victory over Ivory Coast. The teams were tied at 10-10 in regular time. Philip Wokorach landed the most crucial try in sudden death to send Uganda to the semifinals.
