Madagascar upset Kenya in Africa Men’s 7s, South Africa, Uganda unbeaten

Burkina Faso pulled an upset against Kenya Morans, winning 7-5, while South Africa and Uganda maintained their 100% win records on day one of the Africa Men’s 7s first leg the competition.

Both teams had won their opening two matches and were seeking to secure the top spot in the pool, having already qualified for the quarters.

The Morans struck just before halftime with Joel Inzuga finishing off a play that shifted from the right side to the left. The conversion attempt was off target, and the side led by Louis Kisia went into the break leading 5-0.

After the break, Burkina Faso came back stronger, scoring and converting for a 7-5 lead. A blunder by Burkina Faso, kicking out for touch before the full-time whistle, earned Kenya possession.

Kenya then secured a line-out but lost possession after Amon Wamalwa kicked for a grabber, allowing Makis to regain possession and win the match.

Kenya will proceed to the quarters as the second-placed team in the group, while Makis top the group with a 100% win record.

South Africa topped Pool C with a 100% win record. The Blitzboks A side scored 40-5 points against Algeria, adding to their wins over Zambia and Zimbabwe, securing nine points.

Uganda also managed a 100% record, defeating Burkina Faso 29-0. Nobert Okeny set up Timothy Kisiga with an offload for the lead.

Okeny then joined the scoresheet with a try after the break on the right wing. Philip Wokorach then beautifully cut in to give Uganda the third try of the match.

Uganda added two more tries to finish the day with nine points.

Hosts Mauritius picked up their first win of the competition, beating Nigeria.
