St Mary’s Yala rout Sawagongo to win Siaya County 7s

St. Mary’s Yala continued their dominance in the Siaya County 7s by defeating Sawagongo 38-0 in the final played on Saturday.

Yala, who participated in the East Africa games in 2023, showed their prowess by scoring six tries and four conversions to comfortably see off Sawagongo.

Fredrick Nyamboga, Nicholas Owino, Innocent Murunda, Abel Oyaro, Joseph Onyango, and Angelo Opingo each scored a try, with Opingo successfully converting four of them.

Sawagongo struggled to break through Yala’s formidable defence and failed to score any points in the encounter.

Both Yala and Sawagongo will advance to join Maseno, Otieno Oyoo, Kisii School, and Cardinal Otunga in the next stage of the competition.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

In the semifinals, Yala blanked Ambira 28-0. They landed four tries courtesy of Albert Otieno, Collins Okoth, Oyaro, and Opingo. Opingo and Okoth each added a conversion to secure the victory.

In the girls’ category, Nyakongo edged out Sidindi with a narrow 5-0 win.
