KCB Rugby emerged as the champions of the Great Rift 10s tournament after defeating Nakuru RFC 24-12 in the final held at Nakuru Athletic Club on Sunday.
This victory marks KCB Rugby’s second 10s trophy in Nakuru, with their previous win coming a decade ago when they triumphed over Mean Machine with a scoreline of 10-0, clinching their first-ever title in the format.
In a closely contested first half, KCB Rugby secured a narrow 7-5 lead heading into halftime. The converted try proved to be the decisive factor at the break.
As the second half unfolded, KCB Rugby found their rhythm and extended their lead by adding 17 more points to their tally. Nakuru RFC managed to score a solitary try, earning them seven points, but it wasn’t enough to catch up to KCB Rugby’s dominance. The final score stood at 24-12 in favor of the bankers.
Earlier in the competition, KCB Rugby displayed their prowess by defeating Blak Blad 5-0 in the semifinals, paving their way to the final clash. The tournament featured a total of six teams, including three Kenya Cup sides. Former Kenya Cup participant Mean Machine also participated in the competition.
After a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Great Rift 10s tournament successfully returned to its scheduled format.
