Former Kenya 7s rugby player Dennis Ombachi, also known as “The Roaming Chef,” won the award for best TikTok content creator in Sub-Saharan Africa at the TikTok Top Creators Awards.
The awards ceremony was held in Nairobi, Kenya. Ombachi noted that this award felt different from others he had won in the past, as he came from a sports background.
The runner-up for the overall award across Sub-Saharan Africa was Charity Ekezie from Nigeria. The winners were determined through a public voting process that lasted eight days.
Commenting on the award Ombachi said “Coming from sports I have won a couple of medals but there’s is a different feeling that this one has.”

Ombachi competed for Kenya 7s at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He also was a member of the squad that competed at the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Russia.
The self-taught chef shares a variety of videos on TikTok preparing delicacies. His content has earned him a large following on the platform.
Drawn from Sub-Saharan Africa, 90 creators were nominated for the awards and congregate at the five-star Movenpick Hotel and residence to battle it out for the eight awards.
Kenya was represented by 21 content creators, including notable names such as Jackie Vike alias Awinja, Milly Wa Jesus, actress Wabosha Maxine, and beauty fashionista Chasoun among others.
