Kenya 7s have express their sincere gratitude to the fans for their support during their financial difficulty last year.
When the team was struggling to get paid, they turned to their fans for help ahead of the Dubai 7s and were overwhelmed by the response.
Thanks to the generosity of their fans, the team was able to raise 600,244 Kenyan shillings through an online fundraising campaign. This not only helped to address their immediate financial needs, but also brought attention to their situation and ultimately led to a three-year sponsorship from Sportpesa.
The team is deeply grateful for the love and support of their fans, promised to always give their best whenever playing.
A post shared by several members of the team reads:
“To you our Kenya 7s family. Late last year a link circulated asking for you to stand with us financially as we went through a difficult period in which our wages had not been paid. We relied on the spirit of Ujamii which dictates not only togetherness, but the principle of social accountability.
You met our cry for help with zeal and went up in arms to raise awareness about our plight. Because of you, our situation got the attention of the relevant governing bodies, both local and international. Because of you, we managed to raise 600,244 Kenyan shillings which went along way to address the financial challenges that we were facing at the time.
And for all of this and more, we as Kenya 7s Shujaa and our loved ones would like to impress our sincerest gratitude to you our family for your continued love and support through all our endeavours.
Once again you have reminded us why it is we strive to protect our flag every time we take on to the field. Thank you! Asanteni!”
