Victoria 15s: Kisumu RFC, Western Bulls qualify for quarters

Kisumu RFC sailed through the quarters of the Victoria 15s pre-season competition after a resounding 60-0 win over Siaya RFC in a pre-quarters match played on Saturday 22 October 2022 at Kisumu Polytechnic. 

Lawrence Buyachi’s charges were too good for the visitors as they hit the 60-point mark to reach the last eight of the competition.  Kisumu landed 35 points in the first half thanks to five tries, two penalties and two conversions.

In the second half, they had three tries, two conversions and two penalties.

Kisumu skipper opens account

Captain Christopher Otieno opened the scoring with a try in the opening 10 minutes. Washington added a penalty for an 8-0 lead.  Aggrey Kitoi who started in the midfield landed a converted try after 24 minutes of play.

Five minutes later, Fly-half Lenny Obiero crossed over to push the scores to 22-0 after a conversion by Walter Ambe.

Washington sealed their first-half run as he grabbed a penalty and a try for a 35-0 lead at halftime.

In the final half, Washington grabbed two more penalties and converted Israel Makokha’s try for a 46-0 lead.  Two tries by substitutes saw the side win by 60-0.

Other teams in quarters 

Kisumu RFC are joined in the quarters by former Kenya Cup side Western Bulls who defeated Bungoma RFC 44-5 in a match played in the Bullring.

Eldoret are also through to the last eight after eliminating Kitale following a 16-15 win.  Vihiga Granites are also out after falling to Mbale 31-15.
